How do I sign up to PataPay?

Signing up to PataPay can take just minutes to set up, we just need a few things from you so you can start to receive payments.


Before you get started, here's what you'll need

  • A valid government-issued photo ID document. Not a photocopy or a picture of an ID document. Make sure that the ID document hasn’t expired. 
  • A device with a camera – use a mobile device if possible. Cameras on mobile devices typically take higher-quality photos than a webcam. 

The quality of the images you capture affects success rates dramatically. Below are a few best practices to help make sure that your verification succeeds: 

  • Capture a clear image. Make sure that the images aren’t too dark or bright, and don’t have a glare. Hold steady and allow your camera to focus to avoid blurry photos. 
  • Don’t block any part of your ID document in the image. Ideally you should lay it flat to take the photo. 
  • Don’t block any part of your face. Remove sunglasses, masks, or other accessories. 
  • Find a location with ambient lighting. Avoid spaces with strong overhead lights that cast a shadow on your face or ID document. Avoid sitting directly in front of a bright light which can wash out your face and add a glare to your ID document.



Sign up to PataPay

  1. Click on the Payments icon on the side menu
  2. Click Set up Payments
  3. Follow the following steps required:
    1. Where do you want to get paid? 
      Please Input:
      • Account Holder name
      • Account Holder type
      • Sort Code
      • Account Number
    2. Click Add Bank Account once completed
    3. Select the Type of Business from the dropdown
      If you select Company or Non-profit, please then select the Business Structure in the second dropdown
    4. Click Continue


Skip to the relevant steps below based on the Type of Business you selected on step 3.3 above:


Please note: The below steps are the most detailed scenarios so the order of details asked may not be exact, depending on what you selected. 

Please read the instructions on each step of the payments set-up carefully and use the below steps are reference.



If you're a Company

  1. Tell us about your Business
    We need to verify your Business information in order to set up PataPay. This is to protect Pet Parents and prevent instances of Fraud. Please see our FAQs for more info.
    Please provide:
    • Legal Business name - the name you provide must exactly match the name associated with your tax ID.
    • Companies House Registration Number (CRN) - we only need your 7 or 8 digit Company Number. Don't have one yet? Apply Online.
    • Business name (Optional) - The operating name of your company, if it’s different than the legal name
    • Registered Business address - this must match the address filed with the UK tax authority. Find your filed address here. You can use your home address if you don't have a business address.
    • Business phone number
    • Industry - Selecting your industry helps satisfy risk and compliance obligations. Select the option that best matches the goods or service your clients will buy. If you're unsure, we recommend using the "Other Personal Services" option.
  2. Click Continue
  3. Verify you represent this Business
    This form must be filled out by someone with significant control and management of your business. If that’s not you, make sure to ask the right person to continue.
    Please input:
    • Legal name - first and last name
    • Email address
    • Job title
    • Date of birth
    • Home address
    • Phone number
    • Percent ownership of Business - What percentage of the Business do you own?
    • Tick the checkbox If you own more than 25% of the company
      • Are you the only person who owns 25% or more of the company? - tick the relevant options
    • Tick the checkbox if you are a member of the governing board of the company
      • Are you the only member of the governing board of the company? - tick the relevant option
  4. This next step is only required if you selected "I am a member of a Board of Directors" and you have more than one member on the governing board of directors. If you did not select this, skip to Business Owners (step 6) or Business Executives (step 8), and when the Board of Directors screen appears, click Continue.
    Business directors
    Due to regulations, we’re required to collect information about a company’s directors. Please be sure to enter this information correctly, as we may verify this information with that in the Companies House and may need to report discrepancies to them. Learn more.
    Please list all individuals who are members of the governing board of non-profit.
    • Click Add another director if the above applies to you
    • You'll only need to provide their Legal name and email address, and tick the relevant checkboxes.
    • Click Add
  5. Click Continue
  6. This step is only required if there are more than one person who owns 25% or more of the company. Otherwise, you can skip to step 8.
    Business Owners
    Due to regulatory guidelines, we’re required to collect and verify information on anyone who has significant ownership of your business. Please make sure you enter this information correctly, as we may verify this information with that in Companies House and may need to report discrepancies to them. Learn more.
    • Please add any individual who owns 25% or more of Test by clicking Add another owner. 
    • You'll only need to provide their Legal name and email address and click Add.
  7. Click Continue
  8. Confirm Business Ownership
    Please verify that your ownership information is correct and then agree to the following. Learn more.
    By submitting this form, you represent that you are authorised to submit this form on behalf of the business and that the information about beneficial owners provided is complete and correct.
    Please make sure that any person owning 25% or more of the company or any person with significant management responsibility of the company is represented below.
    • Click Add another person if the above applies to you
    • Add an individual
      It’s mandatory to add any individual who is on the governing board, owns 25% or more of the company or otherwise has significant management control of the company. Learn more about what to do if another company has 25% or more ownership of the company.
    • You'll only need to provide their Legal name and email address, and tick the relevant checkboxes.
    • Click Add
  9. Click Submit
  10. Review and Submit
    Review your information
    • You will see an Information required warning next to Business details and people in Management and ownership.
    • Click edit on either and input the information required and/or upload documents to be verified.
    • Business verification - We need additional documents to verify your business. Learn moreabout the types of documents we accept.
      • Click Start verification
      • Please pick which document you'd like to upload from the dropdown in order to verify. If you don't have any of the documents listed below select **Other** and upload a document that includes additional information about your organisation and operations.
        Acceptable documents:
        • VAT Registration
        • Certificate of Incorporation
        • Companies House Document
        • HM Revenue and Customs: VAT Certificate
        • HM Revenue and Customs: Account Statement
        • Charity Commission Document
        • OSCR Scottish Charity Regulator
      • Click Continue
      • Click Upload document and upload from your device.
        Please make sure the document meets the requirements below. If it does, please confirm by checking the boxes below:
        • The document shows your business details exactly as provided. You can edit this information to match your document.
        • The document shows your CRN exactly as provided. You can edit this information to match your document. 
        • The uploaded document is in colour.
      • Click Submit document
    • ID Verification - for additional security, please have this person finish verifying their identity with a government-issued ID.
      Please note: this is an essential part of the process, and you won't be able to set up PataPay until this has been completed. This must be done for and by the main owner or management responsible for the Business and operations.
      Accepted forms of ID:
      • Passport 
      • Driving license 
      • National ID 
      • Valid government-issued identification that clearly shows your face
    • Click Upload document

    • Follow the steps to complete the set up.

  11. Click Agree and Submit
    By clicking Agree and submit, you agree to the Connected Account Agreement, and you certify that the information you have provided is complete and correct.



If you're Non-profit

  1. Tell us about your Business
    We need to verify your Business information in order for Stripe to send payments. This is to protect Pet Parents and prevent instances of Fraud. Please see our FAQs for more info.
    Please provide:
    • Legal Business name - the name you provide must exactly match the name associated with your tax ID.
    • Companies House Registration Number (CRN) - we only need your 7 or 8 digit Company Number. Don't have one yet? Apply Online.
    • Business name (Optional) - The operating name of your company, if it’s different than the legal name
    • Registered Business address - this must match the address filed with the UK tax authority. Find your filed address here. You can use your home address if you don't have a business address.
    • Business phone number
    • Industry - Selecting your industry helps satisfy risk and compliance obligations. Select the option that best matches the goods or service your clients will buy. If you're unsure, we recommend using the "Other Personal Services" option.
    • Product description - Provide a 1-2 sentence description. Make sure to note when you typically charge your customers (i.e. during checkout or 3 days later). This helps us better understand your business.
  2. Click Continue
  3. Verify you represent this Business
    This form must be filled out by someone with significant control and management of your business. If that’s not you, make sure to ask the right person to continue.
    Please input:
    • Legal name - first and last name
    • Email address
    • Job title
    • Date of birth
    • Home address
    • Phone number
    • Percent ownership of Business - What percentage of the Business do you own?
    • Tick the checkbox If you own more than 25% of the company
      • Are you the only person who owns 25% or more of the company? - tick the relevant options
    • Tick the checkbox if you are a member of the governing board of the company
      • Are you the only member of the governing board of the company? - tick the relevant option
  4. This next step is only required if you selected "I am a member of a Board of Directors" and you have more than one member on the governing board of directors. If you did not select this, skip to Business Owners (step 6) or Business Executives (step 8), and when the Board of Directors screen appears, click Continue.

  8. Business Executives
    We’re required to collect information about any executives or senior managers who have significant management responsibility for this business. Please make sure you enter this information correctly, as we may verify this information with that held by Companies House and may need to report discrepancies to them. Learn more.
    • Please add any additional executives by clicking Add another executive and select the other Business Owners or Add someone new. 
    • If adding someone new, you'll only need to provide their Legal name and email address and click Add.
  9. Click Continue
  10. Review and Submit
    Review your information
    • You will see an Information required warning next to Business details and people in Management and ownership.
    • Click edit on either and input the information required and/or upload documents to be verified.
    • Business verification - We need additional documents to verify your business. Learn moreabout the types of documents we accept.
      • Click Start verification
      • Please pick which document you'd like to upload from the dropdown in order to verify. If you don't have any of the documents listed below select **Other** and upload a document that includes additional information about your organisation and operations.

If you're an Individual/Sole Trader

  1. Verify your personal details
    This information is collected to verify your identity, keep your account safe, and help meet legal and regulatory requirements. For more information, consult our Privacy Policy.
    Please provide:
    • Legal name - first and last name
    • Email address
    • Date of birth
    • Home address
    • Phone number
  2. Click Continue
  3. Business details
    Tell us a few details about how you earn money with Pata
    • Industry - Selecting your industry helps satisfy risk and compliance obligations. Select the option that best matches the goods or service your clients will buy. If you're unsure, we recommend using the "Other Personal Services" option.
  4. Click Continue
  5. Review and Submit
    Review your information
    • You will see an Information required warning - click edit on the person and input the information required.
    • ID Verification - for additional security, please have this person finish verifying their identity with a government-issued ID.
      Please note:this is an essential part of the process, and you won't be able to set up PataPay until this has been completed. This must be done for and by the main owner or management responsible for the Business and operations
      Accepted forms of ID:
      • Passport 
      • Driving license

      • Follow the steps to complete Stripe Identity
